Alice presenting on Protocol & Etiquette to University students ![]() - Never give yourself a courtesy title such as “I am Ms Roberts”; always use your first and last names, (such as “I am Alice Roberts”) and let the other person refer to you as Ms. Roberts. "until you know each other well enough to be on first names basis."
- When sitting in public, ladies should cross the legs at the ankles, not at the knees.
- Women married to Knights of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s Realm, should be addressed as “Lady + their husbands surnames”, not their first names. Thus Lady Roberts, not Lady Alice.
- Hold doors open for the person behind you. It’s impolite to let the door shut in the person’s face.
-In the Commonwealth of nations, we wear our brooches, badges, corsages or buttonholes on the left shoulder/ breast. We follow the example of Queen Elizabeth II, the Head of the Commonwealth.
- To address a Minister of Government in the English speaking Caribbean, say Minister Roberts or Honourable (….1st name …) Roberts, never Honourable Roberts. |
